Guided Day Trips

We offer two guided day options. Guided Day Trips are five to six hour experiences. They’re a great option for rowers with (some to a lot of) experience. Our Learn to Row option is for rowers without rowing experience! That’s what we’re here for. Coastal Rowing is a new sport, and a new sport to Alaska.

We break down both of these options below so you can figure out which is right for you. If you have any questions, please reach out and we’re happy to help.

Guided Day Trips

  • Your choice of location: Eklutna, Whittier, or Portage Glacier

  • Expect to be on the water for two to two and half hours, and to row up to 10k. This is not a hard and fast rule; if your group is more comfortable rowing ~6k (for example) just let us know!

  • Our trips accommodate up to four rowers.

    • An additional $30 will be applied to guided day trips with only one rower.

  • We prefer that you have 6 months of continuous experience (on the water or Concept2 Erg, Peloton Row, Hydrow, CrossFit… they all count as experience!)

  • Transportation is provided. Trips depart Anchorage at 7AM and return to Anchorage by 1PM.

  • If your guided day is part of an already planned vacation, or a larger weekend and you’d prefer to meet us there? Great! We’ll meet at 8:15AM at one of the following locations: Eklutna day parking lot, Portage Visitor Center parking lot, or City of Whittier campground lot.

Learn To Row

  • All Learn to Rows (LTRs) happen at Sand Lake.

  • No experience necessary! If you have some, great! If you have none, great!

  • LTRs can be booked for for individuals or small groups (1-4 ppl).

  • LTRs last 90 minutes. Expect to be on the water for most of the hour and a half.

  • LTR is also a great option for rowers with only erg experience or beginner rowers who’d like to freshen up on the water skills to prep for a guided day trip.

  • All LTRs will take place at Sand Lake. Meeting in the Sand Lake Elementary School parking lot.

  • You don’t need a swim suit, wet suit, or life jacket, but form fitting clothing is recommended, as loose clothing can catch the oar or become a safety hazard if caught in the seat track.
