Good layers: Having fun in Alaska is all about being ready for the changing conditions. It may be sunny, rainy and windy all in the same day. Even in the summer, a good base layer (a dry wick or thin merino long sleeve) can make all the difference.

Extra rowing gear: some days we’ll row twice, or we’ll row and hike. You may want or need dry gear to change into.

    Good socks

    Hiking shoes

  • The glacial lake water is cold! 43-55℉

Glacial lake winds or a Williwaw are unpredictable. A calm day can get windy with the cold air coming off the lake or glacier mixing with a stable warm front. It may be calm everywhere but the lake.

This is why our itineraries include multiple rowing locations for each day. Options will provide us the most fun and safest experience for every person.

Still, be prepared to get a little wet from time to time if the wind picks up.

    We have wildlife!

Do not run from bears. Make noise, back away slowly, have your spray ready. But, if you see a bear while rowing, stop and enjoy the view! We’ll go over all best practices in our safety meeting.
